Definition
The WhatsApp Business API (also called the WhatsApp Business Platform) is Meta's official WhatsApp infrastructure for medium and large businesses. Unlike the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app on a phone, it connects to a CRM and lets several users work on the same number at once.
With the API, the number belongs to the business, conversations are stored in the CRM, and messages sent outside the 24-hour customer service window must use templates approved by Meta.
Why it matters for clinics
WhatsApp is the main sales channel in medical tourism. If conversations live on agents' personal phones, the patient history leaves when the agent does, and personal numbers used for bulk messaging risk being banned. The official API ties the number and the history to the clinic and scales safely as the team grows.
Example
A six-person coordinator team shares one company WhatsApp number through the panel. Each conversation is assigned to an agent, the manager can see every chat, and an approved template is used for pre-procedure reminders.
