Upsell

Offering a patient a suitable, complementary service alongside the treatment they came for.

Definition

An upsell is an additional or upgraded service offered alongside the main treatment. In medical tourism that might be whitening added to dental work, PRP sessions after a hair transplant, a second procedure planned with an aesthetic operation, or an upgraded accommodation package.

A good upsell is based on the patient's real needs and is only offered when it's medically appropriate. It adds value rather than sales pressure.

Why it matters for clinics

Winning a new patient is expensive. Offering a suitable extra service to a patient who already trusts you increases revenue per patient and improves the return on ad spend. Tracking upsells as separate opportunities on the patient record and in the pipeline lets you measure revenue and agent performance accurately.

Example

A patient who came for implants is offered whitening after the dentist confirms it's suitable. The agent adds it as a separate opportunity on the patient record, so at month end upsell revenue can be reported separately from the main treatment.
